Harry Katz, director of the Scheinman Institute on Conflict Resolution and the Jack Sheinkman Professor of Collective Bargaining at the School of Industrial and Labor Relations, provides his director's update for April 2026.
Katz discusses a new initiative being launched by the Scheinman Institute in cooperation with CIHLER, the Center for Innovative Hospitality Labor and Employment Relations at Cornell University.
The new initiative brings together a task force to improve fairness and effectiveness in employment arbitration, which affects over 50% of non-union U.S. employees. The task force, which includes academics, management and advocates, will consider research and personal experiences to recommend legislative acts and administrative procedures to ensure due process. The goal is to balance fairness with efficiency in arbitration.
