Thought Leaders on Infrastructure Video Series. Professor Rick Geddes, founder and Academic Director of CPIP
returns to explain how value capture can be derived from wastewater treatment
plants, landfills, chicken farms and cattle ranches where methane is produced.
Methane is a greenhouse gas which is emitted during the
breakdown of organic waste. This methane
can be captured and converted into electricity, which can then be sold back to
the electrical grid. Investors can
borrow against these cash flows to finance the installation of the technology
to capture the methane, thus creating a “win-win” scenario. Smaller municipalities can wrap their methane
capture projects together and thus attract larger investors who can implement
the technology at scale.
