Lissette facilitated a discussion about a new book, We’re All Neurodiverse (2023) by Sonny Jane Wise (also known as the Lived Experience Educator). The book explores the concept of neurodiversity as an alternative paradigm to medical pathology that shifts our collective understanding of the ways that human mind-bodies differ. Wise argues that like biodiversity, neurodiversity is a natural aspect of the human experience and that people whose mind-body functioning deviates from what is considered “normal” are not inherently broken, sick, or “abnormal.” The author advocates for accepting and affirming differences, rather than stigmatizing them or trying to change individuals who deviate from societal norms. The book also explores the intersections of neurodivergence with disability, gender, sexuality, and race, and other categories that challenge normativity with the aim of building more empathetic and just societies
