Neurodiversity Dialogues: Psychological Needs of Neurodivergent Students

In preparation for our discussion about the Mental Health needs of Neurodivergent Students I’ve prepared some stats and resources for you!

To start, let’s think generally about what the general population of college students experience regarding Mental Health while in college. Here’s some stats:
- 1 in 3 young adults experience mental illness (https://www.nami.org/mhstats)
- 75% of mental health problems start by the age of 24. (https://www.nami.org/mhstats)
- Among undergraduate students, 26.4% of females and 6.8% of males experience rape or sexual assault through physical force, violence, or incapacitation. (https://www.rainn.org/statistics/campus-sexual-violence)
- In one study, 51% of college students had experienced at least one adverse childhood experience (ACE) with 30% experiencing more than one. (https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1002/smi.2761)
