A film by well-known Swedish photographer and filmmaker Vincent Skoglund provides a view into an expanded practices studio that is part of AAP's professional Master of Architecture (M.Arch.) core curriculum.
The subject of A Different Way of Thinking is the fall 2016 Core Design Studio V: Expanded Practices, titled Bogotá's los Cerros Orientales: Constructing a Sustainable Relationship Between City and Nature, led by Associate Professor Jeremy Foster and Visiting Critic Julian Palacio. Expanded practices studios utilize on-site design research and speculation to situate projects within larger social, political, and environmental systems. In the studio featured in the film, students were tasked with developing strategic visions for site interventions along the eastern mountains of Bogotá. Project proposals ranged from looking at the informal communities linked with the university neighborhoods, to surgical interventions in the landscape.
Cornell's professional Master of Architecture (M.Arch.) program uniquely engages global practices through a foundation in making and conceptual thinking. Its close community of talented and dedicated students and faculty work together to push the boundaries of the discipline.
The fully accredited M.Arch. program is a three-and-one-half-year course of study dedicated to preparing graduate students from diverse backgrounds for careers in architecture. The M.Arch. program is open to applicants possessing a four-year bachelor's degree in any discipline.
