Bob Bland joined the faculty in ORIE at Cornell in 1978 as an assistant professor. He was promoted to associate professor in 1981 and professor in 1987. He served as Director of the School of OR&IE and as Associate Director for Undergraduate Studies and as Associate Director for Graduate Studies. Bob has received Outstanding Educator awards from Cornell three times, he received the McCormick Advising award from the College of Engineering, and was twice selected by the ORIE undergraduates as Professor of the Year. Bob will retire on July 1, 2019 after 41 years on the Cornell faculty and (approximately) 2,500 lectures for Cornell students. On June 6, 2019, the School of OR&IE will host a celebration of Bob’s contributions to Cornell, which will feature “Bob’s Last Lecture,” a lighthearted compilation of moments from the previous 2,500 lectures.
