Over the last few years, women in the Middle East have made
notable strides in entering the legal profession. Nonetheless, persistent
gender disparities continue to affect their professional growth and
representation. This Talk offers a comprehensive overview of the status and
challenges confronted by women in the Middle Eastern legal sector. Rima Hadid,
a highly accomplished legal advisor in the MENA region, renowned for her
pivotal role in facilitating local, regional, and global M&A transactions
across diverse sectors, and recognized as one of the top 50 most influential
women in finance in the region, will delve into the evolving role of women in
the Middle Eastern legal profession. Ms. Hadid's examination of how women are
reshaping legal systems in the Middle East is a valuable contribution to Dr.
Elsaman's guest speaker series in her class on "Women in Business Law and
International Trade." By illuminating the experiences of women lawyers in
the region, this presentation aims to broaden the perspective of the Cornell
legal community on issues of gender equality and justice in regions like the
Middle East, while offering insights into the achievements already attained and
the ongoing work that lies ahead.
