Any information technology project will be definition center around the storage and management of information. The Business Analyst will elicit the information needs from the subject matter experts, and document it in the Data Model. There are multiple approaches to the format and content of this documentation, principally Data Dictionaries, that itemize and define the information, and Entity Relationship Diagrams that put the information into context, separate it out into discrete data entities, and describe the relationship between those entities. Collectively this documentation is known as the Data Model.
